Connector for Microsoft® Exchange Server |

The Thereforeâ„¢ Connector for Microsoft Exchange Server is a server and policy based tool to save e-mails in Microsoft Exchange to a secure storage location in Thereforeâ„¢.
There are primarily two e-mail archiving scenarios that are covered by the Thereforeâ„¢ system. Scenario 1 is an automatic function and requires the installation of the Thereforeâ„¢ Connector for Microsoft Exchange Server. The focus of this document will be Scenario 1. Scenario 2 is a manual procedure and is a standard Thereforeâ„¢ feature which does not require the Thereforeâ„¢ Connector for Microsoft Exchange Server. Scenario 2 is also possible in automatic mode, typically for mailboxes for orders etc., using the mailbox monitoring feature (requires the Thereforeâ„¢ Content Connector).
Scenario 1
Incoming and outgoing e-mail traffic on the Microsoft Exchange Server should be saved to Thereforeâ„¢ and then stored on secure media with no user interaction. E-mails should not be deleted from the Microsoft Exchange Server. This use case requires the Thereforeâ„¢ Connector for Microsoft Exchange Server. This document covers two common archiving use cases:
The connector can be configured to save all e-mail traffic in Exchange for all mailboxes using the journaling functionality. Using journaling it is possible to forward a copy of every incoming or outgoing e-mail to a pre-defined mailbox. The Thereforeâ„¢ Connector can then easily access this mailbox and save all e-mails from there. This process guarantees that ALL user e-mails are saved, but the user mailboxes are not affected at all. We recommend referring to Microsoft documentation for more information on Microsoft Exchange Server journaling.
This use case is very beneficial because it can help your organization respond to compliance requirements by securely archiving all or targeted email messages in a secure storage location.
The connector can be configured to save only specific e-mails from certain user mailboxes in Exchange to Thereforeâ„¢ using specific filter criteria.
Scenario 2
Users need to save and index specific e-mails to Therefore™. For example, in a lawyer’s office an e-mail pertaining to a certain legal case can be saved to Therefore™ and indexed using the client matter number.
This use case does NOT require the Thereforeâ„¢ Connector for Microsoft Exchange Server. This functionally is provided by Microsoft Office integration which is a default feature in Thereforeâ„¢. Please refer to the standard Thereforeâ„¢ help for more details.
Using the Thereforeâ„¢ Content Connector it is also possible to monitor and automatically process emails. Please refer to the standard Thereforeâ„¢ help for more details.
