Quick Start Guide

Accounting_Categories

This folder includes some categories for storing documents commonly associated with financial reporting and accounting processes. This often includes information relating to account balances, ledgers, profit-and-loss statements, annual reports, or other asset documentation.

As the financial information in these categories is confidential or restricted in most organizations, it is highly recommended to set stringent access permissions. Furthermore, due to the importance of traceability and record reliability, it’s very important to restrict the number of users who can make changes to these documents. By permitting unauthorized users to change financial information unchecked, your organization can fall victim to fraud and be subject to penalties related to non-compliance with financial reporting laws such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

Normally, access to this information would be limited to employees in the Accounting or Finance department, therefore it is suggested to create a user group called “Accounting” or similar, and assign the permissions at the group level. If required, specific permissions can be removed on an individual level by denying a specific user access to certain information they should not be able to view or change.

A short description of each category in the Accounting folder can be found in the next sections.
